An old town with new neighborhoods

Levi Ruggles founded Florence after arriving in Arizona Territory in 1866, at a river crossing he found easy to ford. Its National Historic District has more than 25 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Newer development includes Anthem, built by Pulte and Del Webb about six miles northwest of downtown.
